About The Orchid Place

Tony Liu started The Orchid Place in 2005 as a retirement career. Originally, The Orchid Place provided orchids only for the Wegmans supermarket in Ithaca and to other local floral shops, but word spread quickly about the amazing orchids from The Orchid Place and soon the small business became a major orchid supplier for over 60 Wegmans locations throughout the northeastern region. In addition to Wegmans, The Orchid Place also supplies orchids to over 20 Whole Foods Markets in Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. What started as a hobby and retirement career soon became a busy business, but to Tony he does not consider his long hours at the greenhouse as work, instead he views his work as leisure, getting the rare opportunity to turn his hobby into a viable business. In 2006, an addition was built onto the greenhouse which then bacame The Orchid Place Showroom. In the showroom there are over 40 kinds of orchids for people that may want to come in and see the orchids and for people that may want to buy an orchid on their way home.
